Mushi-shi, Vol. 5

NEW - Mushi-shi, Vol. 5 DVD - As the fantasy-adventure Mushi-Shi approaches its conclusion, there's no quickening of the pace or sense of building to a climax: Ginko just continues his low-key wandering through Japan, studying the mysterious life-forms called Mushi. In the visually striking episode #20, he visits a great archive that contains the writings of previous Mushi masters. But Mushi hidden in the precious scrolls cause the writing to flow out of them like spilled water.
Only the fourth-generation archivist, a woman who bears the family birthmark, can control the writhing sentences: she catches them delicately with chopsticks and returns them to the pages where they belong. The filmmakers effectively blend hand-drawn and computer animation to suggest the differing realities of the humans and the living words. Ginko, who usually acts as a teacher, learns valuable lessons about love and its importance in life in "String from the Sky" and "Shrine in the Sea." (Rated TV 14: grotesque imagery, alcohol and tobacco use) -
